How to Do Bias Tape

Some Tips 

• Please be sure to sew the hem-line of each dress twice

• Please be sure to clip off any ends of threads as you finish the article

• IF you are putting in a slit in the large and extra large dresses, be sure to sew down each side of the slit.

• For help with the slit, please review the instructions found below. 

Items Needed  - Sew to the World is operated solely by donations to this ministry. All items used for the kits are donated.

Items Needed for Girls Dresses 

Any DONATIONS are joyfully accepted and will be used to create dress kits to be sewn into girls’ dresses by volunteers who want to see the Gospel spread through the ministry of Sew to the World.

Dress Material - Dimensions 42”x42” rough size for dresses. Thickness of material should not allow a hand to be seen through the material. Large sizes of material will be cut to the proper size by Sew to the World.

Material for making pockets - Decorative colors to provide splash or contrast on the dress. Two pockets are provided for each dress. Cut sizes are 6” x 12” yields a 6”x6” pocket and a 5”x10” yields a 5” square pocket. Large sizes of material will be cut to the proper size by Sew to the World.

Bias Tape – This is used for the shoulder ties for each dress and MUST be “EXTRA WIDE DOUBLE FOLD BIAS TAPE”

Rick Rack – ½ “wide in colors that will go with the pocket and dress material. The rick rack is used to embellish the pockets

Elastic – Both ½” wide or ¾” wide is used for the neckline. Each dress needs 2 pieces of elastic for front and back of neck.

Heart Cards – Each dress is shipped with a heart shaped card cut from card stock of many different colors. The hearts should measure 4” wide and a hole is put on the top “V” shaped area where a 12” satin ribbon is doubled and threaded through the hole. Each card will have a sticker placed on it that says, “You are loved and prayed for!” 

Girls Panties -  Panties sizes 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16. Panties can be solid colors or printed. "Brief Style" is preferred.

Donation of Material for Boy's Shorts - Material heavy enough to be sown for boys' shorts, parachute or similar cord for the waist ties. 

Miscellaneous - Printer paper, printer labels, printer ink, gallon size Ziploc style bags

Examples of items donated in the past range from bolts of fabric, remnants, various amounts of bias tape packs, spools of rick rack, large number of heart cards, cash for purchase of materials, sewing machines and sergers. All items are recorded and "Thank You" cards are sent. We are not able to issue Tax Deductible Receipts. Receipts for items purchased will be sent to you for monetary donations.
